APW - Illinois, Washington Watch Co, Lafayette, 24J, 18S, gold-filled original HC with attractive engine turning and engraving detail, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, capped third wheel, jeweled barrel arbor, nickel damascene, s#1914646. A rare top grade private label sold by the Montgomery Ward & Co., the total production of this Bunn Special grade 24 jewel hunting case Lafayette is believed to be only approximately 210 made.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking sluggishly on a full wind after requiring prodding to start, overhaul recommended, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, some typical mild fine to micro-fine scratches; excellent dial with small edge chip under bezel near 6, fine perimeter scratch under bezel at 3; excellent hands; case shows very light wear, scattered pinpoint nicks to band, engine turning and engraving detail with some reduction at shoulders and good elsewhere, case front opens wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 110 degrees) and when closed case front leaves some gap to band around lower portion and left side, cuvette exterior is through to underlying brass throughout about one-half its surface; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal.
